Though I've had alert newborns before, this little man takes the cake. You can't tell from the pictures I chose to post here, but this little guy was awake for most of his nearly 3 hour session. I snapped most of these sleeping newborn shots in the last half hour. Don't get me wrong, he was a little angel...just a wide awake little angel. For his parents' sake, I hope he sleeps better at night. Big brother really wanted me to take a picture of his baby brother in a tie. Who am I to say no to such a cute face. Fortunately, it looks like the little one liked the idea too.

I've had several people ask me lately if I was still taking pictures. Yes, I am! Unfortunately I've fallen way behind on blogging and keeping my Facebook page up to date. I have a new proofing site for clients, so I haven't been posting images on social media. Now that my kids are in school, I hope to get back to it. First up, my latest little client. What a sweet little boy! Enjoy your sneak peek!
Wow, two posts in one night. That almost never happens. A good friend of mine delivered an adorable baby boy just before Christmas. He was a big surprise, arriving a month early. It's hard to believe he's already three months old. Isn't he just the sweetest thing! Enjoy your sneak peek!
Today I'm excited to show a sneak peek for two of my clients. The first is a friend who asked if I could do a few portraits of her son in his moose hat. The little guy was not real fond of the hat, but he looks cute as a button in it! The second sneak peek was my first infant session with twins. These two were super sweet and so well behaved! I'm thinking if I had twins, I'd want two sweeties as even tempered as this pair!
It looks like March is the month for babies whose names begin with "E". I spent Saturday afternoon with this handsome little 3 month old. I'm such a sucker for brown eyes. His just made me melt! Enjoy your sneak peek.
The house is quiet, so I'm sneaking in some editing, despite the fact that my computer is operating at a snail's pace. Here's a quick sneak peek of Baby "E" from her newborn session yesterday. At nearly six weeks, she wasn't interested in the classic sleepy baby poses, but she sure was wide-eyed and cooperative. What a sweet little peanut!
My last two photo sessions have been newborn sessions. My normal photography style is very simple, without a lot of posing, props or post processing, so newborn photography is very different from what I'm used to doing. That's OK because I LOVE babies and really enjoy working with them. However, up to this point I had avoided some of the less realistic poses. If you spend any time looking at newborn photography (and why would you?), you know what I'm talking about...babies in what we'll call unusual situations, like sitting in a basket, holding up her own head, hanging in gauze from a tree branch, etc. I don't expect I'll be doing a whole lot of these overly posed portraits in the future, but I do want to be able to offer them if a client asks, so I got a hold of a friend with a newborn and asked to borrow her baby. The portrait below is the popular "head in hands" pose, and I'll let you in on a photographer's secret. It's fake. Babies cannot do this. It is a composite shot, meaning it is put together from two different photos in Photoshop. At no point in the photography session was this sweet baby holding her own head up. I was skeptical...it's so against my style to pose something so far from real life, and I'm not a huge fan of a lot of post processing work, but I have to admit that I love it. Plus, it was so funny to see her little face as we posed her, that my friend and I were both cracking up. So, here she is....a sweet little baby in a basket. And a slightly more realistic shot...well, as real as a baby in a basket can be. This was one sound asleep baby. Hmmm...maybe babies like to be in baskets.
Welcome to the world, baby "S"! She's such a sweet little princess! She had some pretty strong opinions about having her photo taken, but the end result was worth the effort. She's an absolute doll! Three beautiful girls!
My sweet little nephew was such a trooper for his first portrait session. He was a great little sleeper and didn't pee on me at all. You can see more of his album on my facebook page.
